If the long gap between seasons of Bridgerton has you itching for more period romance in your life, we’ve got good news. Season two of The Buccaneers is on its way to Apple TV+ this June and is bringing with it plenty of romance, angst, and gorgeous costumes to tide you over. The Buccaneers' release date is coming soon and we’re all swooning in anticipation.
The Buccaneers differs from Bridgerton in its basic premise – instead of following several British families all vying for favor and romance, it drops five American girls into late-1800s London. All five take part in the debutante season, hoping to find husbands and titles for their nouveau riche families. The Buccaneers season two release date is June 18, 2025 and will see the American women trying to navigate the culture shock of the English once again. It joins the long list of great shows coming to TV and streaming this year that you should check out.
While the comparisons with Bridgerton are fairly obvious, it should be noted that The Buccaneers can be significantly darker than its Netflix counterpart. The relationship between Jinny and James is particularly abusive and can be harrowing at times, so it isn’t quite as lighthearted as Bridgerton usually is. If you want something a little more complex to sink your teeth into while we all wait for the return of Bridgerton, The Buccaneers season two is a good place to start.
