How many episodes are in The Boys season 5?
As you can see from the list above, there are eight episodes in the show’s final season — that’s been the episode count for each season of the show to date, bringing the full episode count for the show to 40 episodes, not counting spin-offs.
Is season 5 the end of The Boys?
Yes, in so far as it’ll be the final season of the core series and bring to an end the core storyline centering around Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Homelander (Antony Star). It’s not the end of the wider universe the show introduced, however; The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has spoken about the VCU, as he calls it — the Vought Cinematic Universe, named after the corporation at the heart of the franchise. “I think it's an interesting universe. It's really irreverent, and as long as we can maintain that irreverent, shocking, fun, emotional tone, then I'm open to any story in that universe, as long as it clears a particular bar of quality.” Currently, three spin-offs are in different stages of development and production:
- Vought Rising, a prequel that has completed filming and stars Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy and Aya Cash’s Stormfront
- The Boys: Mexico, a project being developed by Andor’s Diego Luna, Werewolf by Night’s Gael Garcia Bernal and Blue Beetle writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer
- Gen V, the third season of which has yet to be officially announced by Prime Video but is said to be in the works
If you’re surprised by the existence of a larger VCU, we’ll happily direct you to our guide to watching The Boys and its existing spin-offs.
How does The Boys end?

The final episode of The Boys won't debut until May 20 on Prime Video, but if you really want a clue about how everything is going to turn out, we'd like to point you towards our story about how the original comic book series came to a close. No spoilers, but it's safe to say that things got pretty messy. We would be remiss if we didn't make it clear that The Boys (the show) isn't a one-to-one adaptation of the comic book, however; don't go in expecting his ending to perfectly map onto the television show.
They are brash, unforgiving, and a little rough around the edges... and they're the good guys! The heroes of Prime Video's The Boys, led by Karl Urban's Butcher, go up against the 'superheroes' that is the Seven, led by Anthony Starr's Homelander, leader of the Seven. With that show's five seasons plus spinoffs such as Gen V, Diabolical, and reportedly more, there's a lot to the Boys Franchise, and we're here to help... with:
