Stranger Things had an emotional, tear-filled final day of shooting, says David Harbour

And not because they were filming Sheriff Hopper's funeral (because that was definitely a joke, right? RIGHT?)

If you think that you’re upset about the prospect of Netflix’s Stranger Things coming to an end, give a thought to how the cast are feeling. According to the show’s David Harbour, the last day of its epic Season 5 shoot proved to be an emotional one for everyone who’s been with the show since they were just kids.

“On the last day of shooting, it was a bunch of the kids, and — I wasn't shooting and I had stuff to do, but I was like, ‘No, I want to go,’” Harbour explained during his appearance at Tampa Bay Comic Convention 2025. “I went, and it was pretty adorable, because I think one of the most beautiful things about the show is, these kids all grew up on the show. A lot of you, if you're younger and you like the show, you grow up with it, or you have kids that watch the show with you, and you are like the parents of these kids. I mean, I feel that same sort of thing. But I was there that final day, and just… the amount of crying…!”

That’s good tears, we hasten to add.

“You know, when your kid graduates from college, or whatever, you're so proud…!” Harbour added. (Can we call the Upside Down the world’s scariest college? Vecna does have that ‘creepy professor’ vibe…) “The amount of tears coming out of these children, it was pretty beautiful,” he said.

Okay, now we’re wondering if the actual ending of the series is going to be as tearful. Harbour did joke that the last day of shooting was Hopper’s funeral, after all…

Stranger Things Season 5 comes to Netflix with its first episodes Thanksgiving 2025. Read more from the David Harbour/Matthew Modine Tampa Bay panel right here.
