Stranger Things Season 5 will wrap up the "OG storylines" from the Netflix hit, promises David Harbour

The original plot threads from Netflix's supernatural series Stranger Things will be tied up by the final season - but what about the rest of the mythology?

The final season of Stranger Things is still months away, but that isn’t stopping David Harbour from teasing fans with what it’s going to contain — and what might remain untouched for potential future stories, as well.

Speaking during his appearance at Tampa Bay Comic Convention 2025 alongside co-star Matthew Modine, Harbour said that the final season of the show will wrap up what the actor deliberately called “the OG storylines,” including the relationship between his character Sheriff Hopper and Winona Ryder’s Joyce, and his relationship as a surrogate father to Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven. Both of which, he promised the crowd, would get a great payoff — not that he was willing to drop any particular hints, although he did say that his favorite scene he shot with Ryder was in the upcoming season.

We’re can’t overlook the mention of “OG storylines,” though. Does that mean that there will be storylines and threads from later seasons left unresolved by the time the series finishes…? That wouldn’t be entirely impossible, given that we already know of two spin-offs — the upcoming animated Tales from ’85, and the stage show The First Shadow — that dig into the larger mythology surrounding the series. The question then becomes, if the fifth and final season of Stranger Things only ties up the OG storylines, what does and doesn’t fall under that umbrella?

Stranger Things Season 5 comes to Netflix with its first episodes Thanksgiving 2025. Read more from the David Harbour/Matthew Modine Tampa Bay panel right here.
