With episodes in its final season varying significantly in length, fans had wondered just how long the series finale was going to run — and where they’d be able to see it in theaters as part of the promotional push for the big climax. Netflix has just answered both questions.
First things first: the finale episode of the series — titled ‘The Rightside Up,’ which is a title that positively resists any kind of real speculation; thanks, Duffer Brothers — will also be the second-longest episode of the show, running 125 minutes in total. (The longest episode is the Season 4 finale, which is 139 minutes, if you’re curious.)
If you’re thinking, “just over two hours? That’s just like a movie,” then it’s a good thing that more than 500 theaters in the U.S. and Canada will be playing the episode starting at 5pm ET on December 31, 2025, timed to the episode’s release on Netflix. Screenings will also take place on January 1, 2026, for anyone whose New Year plans conflicted with one last (big screen) trip into the Upside Down. The official list of participating theaters can be found here.
Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1 is currently on Netflix; Volume 2 drops December 25, and the final episode December 31.
