In a twist of events, Disney will be dropping the first two episodes of the upcoming Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld animated series early - but only on Fortnite.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Disney and Epic Games will continue their partnership with the early release of Dave Filoni's Tales of the Underworld series on May 2. The show begins streaming on Disney+ on May 4. Fans will be able to assemble on an island in Fortnite to watch the first two episodes. More crucially, The Hollywood Reporter notes that "players on the island can also battle enemies while they watch."
So, if you're like me and feel a little left out every time you see Anakin and Obi-Wan battle it out on Mustafar, you can get up to some skirmishes while on the Star Wars Watch Party island as Tales of the Underworld is streaming. I know this is not the big selling point for either company, but it's enough to get my millennial self tempted to download the game.
This isn't the first time that Fortnite has been the host for a grand Star Wars event. For the release of Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, a sweeping Fortnite X Star Wars event featured the likes of Geoff Keighley, actor Ben Schwartz, and director J.J. Abrams at Risky Reels. However, this Tales of the Underworld event has a much less of a "presentation" feel, and instead represents the synergy between Disney and Epic Games moving forward.
In order to join the Watch Party, gamers can link their Epic Games accounts to their MyDisney accounts. Happy streaming!
