In 2023 Star Trek: Strange New Worlds did the unthinkable – a musical episode.
‘Subspace Rhapsody’ was bold, unexpected, and it showed us just how malleable Star Trek could be. After all, if they could do a musical episode, what other genres could they tackle?
Nyota Uhura actress Celia Rose Gooding has some ideas.
“Reality. Like, very Abbott Elementary, St. Denis Medical, The Office, just something like that,” Gooding says during the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds panel at Emerald City Comic Con.
“Like a mockumentary,” moderator Ashely Victoria Robinson asks. “Sure,” Gooding replies.
A Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode shot like The Office? Yes please. Honestly, the premise of the show doesn’t make it hard. Maybe the Enterprise crew experiment with recording their logs in a new way, or the Federation sends someone to document their work. Either way, the results would be entertaining. Paramount, if your writers room isn’t already talking about this, it’s time to start the conversation.
