It sure seems like Percy Jackson's Olympian role for Kate McKinnon is more than meets the eye
Kate McKinnon is playing Percy Jackson's Aphrodite, right? Well, according to Olympians author Rick Riordan, the story might be a bit more complicated than that

Maybe I'm biased, but Kate McKinnon was a god way before landing the role of Disney+'s Aphrodite. Sure, it's exciting to see her playing a role in the hugely popular Percy Jackson & the Olympians adaptation, but what she did in those Alien Abduction SNL sketches was just as worthy of praise as any ancient love idol. But then again, maybe there's something even more to her newfound godhood than just a single turn in a beloved literary role.
At least, that's what Rick Riordan seems to imply.
Speaking to The Wrap in an article published November 18, Percy Jackson creator (and series executive producer) Rick Riordan dropped a tantalizing hint about how we'll meet the PJ version of Aphrodite, one that indicates the character's extensive mythology has been taken into consideration.
"[Her] appearance," says Riordan, "Her manifestation of ultimate beauty, changes depending on who is beholding that beauty. Because beauty is different for everybody... It’s very subjective. So she doesn’t look like just one person. And you know, I will tell you that we honor that in the third season. So, while Kate is incredible, and maybe a very unexpected and fun sort of manifestation where we spend most of our time with, that’s not the only manifestation."
So wait - does this mean that Kat McKinnon's appearance will change over the course of Percy Jackson season 3? Or does it mean that other people will be playing the love goddess alongside the legendary SNL alum and Barbie star?
Well if it's the latter, let's hope scene partner Ryan Gosling is one of them.
Percy Jackson & the Olympians streams on Disney+ December 10.
With it's Olympian return to Disney+ for season 2, there's never been a better time to be a Percy Jackson fan.
