In this age of worshipped franchises and powerful fanbases, what was once dead can be resurrected. That's obviously what the staggeringly vocal fans of Our Flag Means Death want to have happen - they've been holding out hope for a revival ever since Warner Bros. Discovery cancelled the series in January of this year. To get a better idea of that revival's viability, Popverse sat down with a kind of expert: Wee John Feeney himself, Kristian Nairn.

What do you think it would take to get a third season, Popverse asked the OFMD and Game of Thrones star, who is currently promoting his tell-all memoir that hits bookshelves later this month, Beyond the Throne. 

"It's down to the fans," Nairn responded. "And they're doing exactly the right thing." 

Well, that's certainly some positive vibes for our favorite pirate crew. But just what is the "right thing" that Nairn's talking about?

"Every time I go to a convention or an online thing," he says, "[the fanbase] just seems to be still growing. People are still showing the show to other people. It's getting bigger and bigger."

You heard it here first, folks - the most positive impact you can make toward getting a new season of Our Flag Means Death is to show the series to your friends. In Kristian Nairn's opinion, anyway.

Still, the actor wants fans to be very clear - this is his opinion on what he thinks could happen. He knows as much as we know about an official return to the series by Warner Bros. Discovery. Which is to say, nothing.

"I'm always 100% careful not to give any false hope," Nairn concludes, "because I really don't have any. That's the truth; I don't have any information. As a totally off-record thing, while being on record, (that's the most Irish thing I've ever said), I could see it happening."

"I can see it happening" is not even close to what Our Flag Means Death megafans truly want to hear, but at the very least, it's a glimmer of hope. And as any good pirate knows, sometimes that's all you need to sail by.
