The Our Flag Means Death cast reveal what we could’ve seen in season 3, including a Garlic Soup threesome

More shipping, a big death scene, and other surprises

We’ll never get to see Our Flag Means Death season 3, but thanks to Samba Schutte and Vico Ortiz, we have some hints at what might have gone down.

Speaking to a crowd at Florida Supercon 2024, the the two members OFMD crew spoke about the threads a potential third season would have picked up.

“I definitely wanted to explore more of the polycule Garlic Soup situation,” Ortiz reveals.

If you aren’t familiar with what Ortiz means, Garlic Soup refers to the threeway ship between Jim, Archie, and Olu.

“There were so many little tidbits and moments that with editing and time did not make it into the final cut. Samson [Kayo], Ruibo [Qian], and Mads [Sami], and I were all trying to figure out ways to add things here and there," says Ortiz. "An improv moment in the second season when we're talking about, I'm going to leave was saying and then like, 'Actually, maybe you can come and we can share a room.' That was all improvised.”

“So, we were just like, 'We're gonna keep improvising like we're in it together forever,'" says Ortiz. "And it would just be so cool because at least for me, Jim in the second season starts to apply some of the stuff that they've learned and then starting to see more of that silliness that they are learning through Archie, and then in the third season with Zheng in the mix, who has a little bit more similar of the past Jim moments. How do they also find that balance between more serious intense fighting but also some softness and some silliness from Archie, and just exploring that with Jim's journey? That would be cool.”

According to Schutte, season 2 was supposed to explore this further.

“One deleted scene that didn't make it was going to be a reveal that they were having a threesome in the room. I forgot which character was going to open the door and see them in a pose all three of them go like, 'Oh my god, I'm so sorry.' It would have been fun.”

Schutte had an interesting pitch for Roach’s final fate.

“As for Roach... I asked [series creator] David Jenkins, I'm like, 'When we get a third season, I want Roach to die in the most chaotic way possible. But taking down an entire British army with him.' And Jenkins was like, 'I'll keep that in mind.' I was really excited for Roach to go on more adventures and then just sacrifice himself in the most chaotic way possible. That would have been a lot of fun to do.”

Of course, there is no guarantee Jenkins would’ve gone this route, but it’s fun to imagine Roach going out in a blaze of glory. Unless Max or another network decides to rescue Our Flag Means Death, these anecdotes might be the closest thing to season 3 we’ll ever get.

What Our Flag Means Death season 2 finale twist might've meant for season 3.
