We’re all desperate to see how Netflix can bring together more of the Straw Hats in One Piece season two – even if we are probably going to have to wait longer than we want to see it happen. Mackenyu, who played legendary swordsman Zoro in One Piece season one, hasn’t told us when the second season is coming, but he has mentioned that there was a big difference in what he wanted to accomplish between the two seasons.

When talking about his role in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Mackenyu admitted that season one of One Piece was all about trying to bring Roronoa Zoro into live-action without losing what made the character iconic. “The first season I was trying to find out how to bring Zoro to life. That was my main goal for season one.”

Things are different in the upcoming season, though. “But for season two,” Mackenyu explained. “The goal was to make him a lot deadlier and cooler, just level this badass character up.”

Mackenyu’s comments are probably going to be reflected in the upcoming Whisky Peak arc, which sees Zoro taking on waves of would-be assassins while most of the Straw Hat pirates sleep. It is a largely inconsequential arc in the manga but it has the potential to show off how intimidating Zoro is. Season two of Netflix’s One Piece series already sounds like it will be wonderfully packed with action, including a more badass Zoro to keep us excited for what comes next.

Season two of Netflix’s One Piece series is still due out in 2025, though a delay into 2026 might not be not be off the table.
