Most 11-year-olds are playing Roblox or scrolling through TikTok, but when Millie Bobby Brown was 11, she was giving performances that were so intense that her adult co-stars had to pick their jaws off the floor.
Matthew Modine, who acted alongside Millie Bobby Brown in Netflix’s Stranger Things, recalls the way she impressed him during their first scene together.
“The first day in season one, the Duffer Brothers and Shawn Levy, the producer and the director of many of the episodes, were so excited that I was going to meet this young girl Millie Bobby Brown,” Modine says during a panel at Tampa Bay Comic Convention. “They said she was really wonderful. She was 11 years old, and she’s a child, and when they were ready to shoot, they said, ‘We’re ready, do you need anything.’ She said, ‘I just need a moment.’ And she kind of went someplace and focused, and then she took her hand away and said, ‘I’m ready.’ And man, was she ready.”
The bond between Modine and Brown continued to grow. In fact, Modine officiated her wedding last year.
“There’s an expression they use from Old Hollywood, it’s the ‘It Factor,’ and Millie has it, as do so many of the children. For me, I didn’t really work with the other kids as you know, but working with Millie was a great pleasure, and it’s been wonderful to watch her grow up and become a woman and to officiate her wedding.”
