One of the things we love about One Piece is just how much there is. With over 1100 episodes in the anime, the Netflix series will have to seriously pick up the pace if they want to try to adapt the whole thing. Mackenyu, who is playing the legendary three-sword-wielding Roronoa Zoro in the live-action One Piece series, has said he’s ready to stick with the character for the long haul.

Speaking at Comic-Con Brussels last year, Mackenyu was asked if there are any other iconic anime characters he would like to play, but the actor said he wanted to see One Piece through to the end before taking on another anime adaptation. “I’ve got to finish [Zoro] first. He’s too big. I gotta finish him. There’s like 50 more seasons to go. When I turn 70, I’ll retire playing Zoro.”

The actor couldn’t (or wouldn’t) comment on how long Netflix would keep making One Piece episodes, though. “I don’t know where we’re going till,” he told the audience, but he did admit that he would love to get to adapt the Dressrosa Arc before the show ends.

Mackenyu is looking to play Zoro on Netflix’s One Piece for another 50 years, but we’re still waiting for season two of the show to be released. We know that we’ll be getting a look at the monstrously cute Tony Tony Chopper during the Drum Island arc in 2025, but we still don’t know exactly what the release date for season two will be. Between the final season of Stranger Things and the next seasons of Wednesday and Squid Game, One Piece is finding itself in the middle of a cramped year for Netflix.
