Toss a coin to your new Witcher. The first official look at Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt of Rivia has been released, ahead of the show’s fourth season debut of the actor in the role… and he looks appropriately grizzled, yet hunky.
The Hunger Games actor Hemsworth is inheriting the role from the departing Henry Cavill, who played Geralt to great acclaim in the first three seasons of the Netflix fantasy series; he’ll join the returning core cast of Freya Allan, Anya Chalotra, and Joey Batey, as well as a number of newcomers to the show, including Sharlto Copley, James Purefoy, and the amazing Laurence Fishburne, who’ll be playing fan-favorite character Regis.
But back to the new Geralt: he has the hair, he has the world-weary gait, he has the scowl, and as can be seen in the video released by Netflix, he certainly has the fog.
“His look has been in development for over a year, so it’s thrilling to finally share an official sneak peek of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia," series showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich told Entertainment Weekly in a statement. "Cast and crew alike have been struck by the passion, energy, and embodiment Liam has brought to the character from Day 1 — scruffy beard, iconic scar, and all! We’re having so much fun filming season 4 and are excited to welcome fans along on this journey with us.”
What do you think of the new-look Geralt? Feel free to leave coins and comments below. The new season of The Witcher is currently in production in the UK. We don’t know when it’s going to be released, but you can use the downtime to rewatch the earlier seasons.
We love explaining The Witcher, whether it's the timeline of the show, what happened at the end of the last season, or what's going on with Ciri's powers, anyway.
