Netflix is good for the entire world, says no less an authority than Netflix

Netflix is even launching a website entirely dedicated to its own global impact - thenetflixeffect.com

Don't call it a humblebrag.

Streaming titan Netflix is tooting its own proverbial horn this week, claiming that it has contributed a staggering amount to the global economy, including 425,000 permanent jobs, 700,000 positions for extras, and a whalloping $325 billion dollars since 2016. But rather than just end this announcement at a data-filled press release, Netflix want you to experience all their good deeds for yourself... so they're launching a website dedicated to them.

These staggering numbers and new site announcement come from a Variety article published May 12. In it, the outlet reveals the creation of thenetflixeffect.com, which Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos calls "a comprehensive look at the economic, cultural and social impact of our films and series, and how it ripples out across economies, industries and everyday life, day after day, week after week."

Here's the thing - these numbers are from Netflix themself, as is (obviously) The Netflix Effect website. As Variety points out, they have not been verified by an independent party. Let's be super clear, here, folks: neither Popverse or the other outlets reporting on this development are claiming their own numbers are anything less than accurate, we're only pointing out that no other entity has verified them.

What is certainly true is that Netflix, which began in the states, can well be considered a global powerhouse at this point. Nearly 200 countries (190, to be exact) support Netflix's streaming service - compare that to the 121 countries that support HBO Max or the 65 countries that support Disney+ (via AstrillVPN). Whatever the other numbers are, that's an impressive achievement on a global scale.

As we'll sure a certain website will tell you.
