"That'll take years": Netflix's Arcane showrunner says the next League of Legends series (movie?) won't be here anytime soon
With Netflix's Arcane season 2 just having wrapped, showrunner Christian Linke opened up about what's next for League of Legends adaptations. Whether or not that's a TV series or movie is still up in the air

It was a bittersweet event for League of Legends fans. On November 23, the final three episodes of Arcane season 2 finally dropped on Netflix, capping a highly-anticipated new chapter of an award-winning show. But with that epic conclusion, the series was over. Naturally, fans are already asking when they can expect to see more and, unfortunately, there's no "sweet" to the answer. According to the series' showrunner, we won't see another League of Legends adaptation for a long, long time.
That showrunner is Christian Linke, who recently spoke with the good folks at GamesRadar about what the future held for the universe of Arcane. And while Linke was crystal clear about the fact that more adventures set in Runeterra are coming ("there are several" champions whose stories "we are exploring," says Linke), we the audience won't be returning for a stretch.
"It takes time," Linke told his interviewer, "depending on if it's a series or a movie. We're exploring both in many, many directions. A lot of it comes down to finding the right people, the right vision, the right idea, the right story. That'll take years and once we have confidence that something's happening, we'll talk more about it."
That's right, he said "years." And while it's exciting to imagine what a possible League of Legends movie would look like, especially with the animation budget the Netflix series got, it's nothing short of a bummer to know we'll have to wait so long to see it.
Still, we waited a full three years between season 1 and season 2 of Arcane. Another three wouldn't be that bad, right? Right?
Arcane seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Netflix.
Fade to credits, then a pop-up of what to watch read next - just like Netflix:
