What to Watch August 2024: The new movies and TV series are streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Max, and Hulu

August is a big month for streaming across the board, as highly-anticipated series beginning on or returning to their respective streamers

August is a key month in the streaming wars of 2024. Your favorite subscription services are bringing out their big guns to go head-to-head this month, from a much-teased teen murder mystery to the animated return of a classic Dark Knight, to a tell-all about one of Hollywood's most revered names, to the continuing saga of Middle-Earth... and so, so much more. Popverse has compiled this list to provide you will all the major and original shows and movies enlisting in the streaming battles this month, so armor up and charge in.

Everything Coming to Netflix in August 2024

Let's start off with the service usually considered the heaviest hitter in streaming - Netflix. There's plenty of entertainment for emo kids this month on the platform, with A Good Girl's Guide to Murder debuting right at the top and the fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy streaming just a week later. Then, fans of epic sagas will be treated to the director's cut of both chapters of Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon and the Olympian comedy KAOS starring Jeff Goldblum.

Everything Coming to Amazon Prime Video in August 2024 

Prime Video is bookending its August with two of its most highly-anticipated series of 2024. Leading us off, we've got the JJ Abrams/Matt Reeves-produced Batman: Caped Crusader. And then taking us home, we've got the second season of The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power at the end of the month.

Don't say the Warner Bros-owned streaming platform doesn't feature entertainment of all varieties. From a juicy Elizabeth Taylor doc to the continuing power drama that is Industry to an anime spinoff of Rick and Morty (whew!), there's something on there for just about everybody. Except Batgirl. (Too soon?)

Everything Coming to Hulu in August 2024  

Last but not by any means least is Hulu, which is bringing back smash hits Solar Opposites and Only Murders in the Building for new, exciting seasons this August. Also of note - the latest in the Planet of the Apes film franchise and holy horror Immaculate are both appearing on the streamer; great for anybody who wanted to see these two much-talked about 2024 flicks but missed them in theaters.
