Mads Mikkelsen wants a Hannibal revival, complete with a time jump and "a fresh start" for his and Hugh Dancy's characters

Could Hannibal return for a 4th season? Mads Mikkelsen is ready and waiting

In 2015 NBC cancelled Hannibal. The series ended on a cliffhanger, as Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter fall into the ocean. As of now, there are no plans to continue the series as far as we know from NBC or the show's creator, but Hannibal Lecter actor Mads Mikkelsen remains hopeful. The actor was recently asked what type of ending he envisioned for his character, and he didn’t mince words.

“Why would we want to see an ending? We want to see it continued,” Mikkelsen says during the Hannibal reunion panel at Emerald City Comic Con 2025.

Mikkelsen went on to say that he never had any doubt that Hannibal and Will survive their plummet into the ocean.

“Obviously, there’s no way at least Hannibal’s not going to survive that. Of course, he’s going to survive that, and so is Will. It’s just a question of how much we jump in time because if we do a jump of six or seven years, it can be very interesting what these guys are doing now. So, I don’t want to see an ending, I want to see a fresh start.”

The series has been off the air for a decade, but there is precedent for a cancelled show about a serial killer returning for a new series. Just look at Dexter. Who knows, maybe Hannibal is next.
