Luke Cage & Evil star Mike Colter has one request for fans bringing him gifts at cons: please don’t make him check a bag

The star of Evil and Luke Cage has some thoughts on fans bringing him gifts

During New York Comic Con 2025, Mike Colter, the star of shows like Evil and Luke Cage, sat down in the Pop Spot with Popverse’s Ashley V. Robinson. During the conversation, the pair discussed a number of different topics. Among them were Colter’s thoughts on fans bringing him gifts during his convention appearances.

The topic came up after Robinson asked what most fans bring him as a gift. Colter listed a few items, including bracelets and little dolls.

“Sometimes they bring me big framed items, things that I couldn’t possibly get on a plane unless I checked. And just so you know, FYI: I never travel with checked bags. I just never do it. I don’t care if it’s Europe or China, I will wash — that’s what washing machines are for. I will dry clean. But I will not bring a bag and check it. So don’t bring me anything I have to check, please.”

Robinson had a follow-up question ready: “Do you accept food? Do you like snacks when people bring you snacks?” Once again, Colter answered without hesitation.

“I gotta be honest: no,” Colter said. “I barely eat anyone’s… I need to see it be made. I’m a little concerned about everything, so I’m always like… Yeah, yeah. So it’s hard for me to eat anyone’s food. I’m just a little nervous about that.”

When Robinson mentioned that some people request fans bring them Oreos, Colter had more thoughts.

“Oreos? You ever see them take a blowtorch to an Oreo? It doesn’t do anything to it. I’m not putting that in my stomach, man,” Colter said. “Literally does not change the Oreo after twenty seconds of hot flames. Doesn’t change it.”
