Marvel Zombies season 1 release date: The MCU takes on zombies in a new Disney+ series

Craving the undead? Marvel Zombies is serving up a four episode meal

Zombie superhero alternate universes aren’t new to comics, but Marvel Animation is taking its next leap into this neat subgenre with Marvel Zombies on Disney+. The show will follow up on the What If…? Zombies?! episode from season 1 of What If…?, which depicted the Earth in the MCU overrun by a zombie outbreak. As if Earth’s heroes don’t have enough to stress about already.

The four episode Marvel Zombies miniseries will release on Disney+ in October 2025. A specific release date has not yet been announced, but watch this space for when the details finally drop, because we will update you. The October 2025 release window was announced alongside details about other upcoming MCU projects in a “Look Ahead” trailer posted by Marvel Studios.

The original What If…? episode ended with a handful of heroes escaping to what they assume to be safety in Wakanda, only to discover that a zombified Thanos is there with the Infinity Gauntlet. To make matters worse, a lot of the Wakandan warriors are also zombies too. How will the heroes fight their way out of this one? Brutally, I would presume.

Let’s also not forget that Marvel Zombies pulls from the comic book series of the same title. The comics had some gruesome takes on fan favorite characters’ superpowers, with the brilliant X-Man Forge fashioning a gun out of zombie Cyclops’s skull (from Marvel Zombies: Resurrection #1). Imagine that as an outtake from X-Men ‘97. Maybe I shouldn’t speak that into existence, I like Cyclops alive and well.

Marvel Zombies will release in October 2025 on Disney+.
