Marvel Animation boss promises X-Men '97 and Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man "on an annual cadence"
To me, my future seasons of Marvel's animated hits!

Popverse's top stories
- Say Anything star John Cusack is headed out on a cosmic road trip for Jackie Gleason in his next big project - and it's a comic
- NYCC 2025, George R.R. Martin, Absolute Batman, and more: Popverse plans for October 2025
- Yeah, we made it: Post Malone is coming to New York Comic Con 2025
Here is the thing: animated shows take a long time to make. Depending on the art style and how much things change between seasons, it can be years before more episodes are done. Even a studio as massive as Marvel Television has limits on its budget and resources. However, fan response to both X-Men ’97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man have been strong enough that they’re committing to releasing new seasons annually going forward.
Speaking to DiscussingFilm, Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, explained that we wouldn’t have to wait as long for those shows as we have in the past. “What’s exciting about the next few years is that we’re gonna get subsequent seasons of X-Men ’97 and Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on an annual cadence. So, every year, there will be a new season and we can map out a longer arc to those stories.”
The wait for more Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man hasn’t been too long. The first season debuted earlier this year, and the next season is expected to come out sometime in 2026. X-Men ’97 is a slightly different story; the first season aired on Disney+ in early 2024, and another season isn’t due out until 2026. That is understandable, considering the controversy around previous showrunner Beau DeMayo’s firing in late 2024.
There still isn’t a release date for X-Men ’97 or Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season two. However, we do know that season three of both shows should be coming no later than 2027.
