If you’re worried about Daredevil: Born Again being a watered down version of the 2015 Netflix series, we have good news for you. According to Wilson Fisk actor Vincent D’Onofrio, the upcoming Marvel Studios series will not only match the tone of the Netflix original, but at times it will be even darker. Speaking to a crowd at Dragon Con 2024, D’Onofrio gave fans some hints at what they could expect from Daredevil: Born Again.
“There’s only so much I could say, because I know the truth, so I’m going to try to be fair to everyone. The boss [Kevin Feige] wanted the show to be the best thing it could possibly be for you guys. Charlie [Cox] and I wanted the show to be the best thing it could possibly be for you guys. I don’t know if you guys know about the #SaveDaredevil campaign, but they were huge in getting us to come back. And the boss, obviously Kevin, was huge in getting us to come back.”
D’Onofrio then alluded to some of the production troubles and the creative overhaul the series went through.
“There was a bit of a struggle at the beginning, and then we sorted that out. It is connected to the old show now, and the tone is darker than ever before. I just saw one of the episodes and there is a thing that my character does, and this thing that Punisher does, and this thing that Daredevil does. There are scenes that I didn’t think would make it into the show, but they’re in the show. They are heavy, intense, violent stuff that’s like, oh my god, we’re really going for it. I don’t think it’s going to let you guys down.”
“There is a different tone than the original show because the original show is an origin story. This show is about the men, Murdock and Fisk, and how they’re struggling with their alter egos. It gets dark really quickly. I could only say these vague things.”
Daredevil: Born Again will premiere on Disney+ in March 2025.
