In the upcoming CW series crime series Joan, Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) plays real-life British diamond thief Joan Hannington, aka the Godmother. As emphasized by the trailer, Joan is a “Mother,” “Lover,” “Liar” and “Thief.” She married professional thief Boise Hannington (Frank Dillane) and became one of the most notorious criminal masterminds in British history. Here’s what we know so far about the show in advance of its arrival this fall.
Along with Turner and Dillaine, Joan will also feature performances from:
- Kristy J. Curtis as Nancy
- Gershwyn Eustache Jr. as Albie
- Tomi May as King
- Laura Aikman as Val
- Alex Blake as Bernard
- Harry Pittard
- Lankesh
The series is created by Anna Symon, written by Symon and Helen Black and directed by Richard Laxton. It was adapted by the real-life Joan Hannington’s 2024 memoir, I Am What I Am: The True Story of Britain's Most Notorious Jewel Thief. In fact, Symon and Hannington even met as Symon was writing the series.
The six-episode series was filmed in the United Kingdom, where it will stream on ITVX beginning this month. Meanwhile, across the pond, United States viewers can expect to see the premiere of Joan on the CW on October 2, 2024. Will you be stealing a peek when it arrives?
