The one Helluva Boss scene that "broke my heart" for Blitzo actor (and series co-writer) Brandon Rogers

For the many, many characters that comedian Brandon Rogers has played over the years, few if any relate to him as much as Biltzo, the titular Helluva Boss of the Immediate Murder Professionals

For all the raunchy humor and gory visuals of Helluva Boss, the animated Hell-set comedy created by VivziePop, there's a whole lot of real heart that goes into the story. Take, for example, the character of Blitzo (the "O" is silent), played by comedian Brandon Rogers. The titular Boss, Blitzo can be cold, calculating, and even cruel, but at San Diego Comic Con 2025, Rogers got into the human side of Blitzo's character.

This happened at the Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss panel at SDCC this year, attended by not just Rogers, but Vivienne Medrano (creator), Erika Henningsen (Charlie), Amir Talai (Alastor), and Richard Horvitz (Moxxie). A few minutes into the discussion, Rogers dished on where the ending of Helluva Boss season 2 had left his demonic avatar.

"How Blitzo has started to feel about [romantic interest] Stolas all along," says Rogers, "Is starting to be more revealed, maybe even to himself. Maybe he didn't feel like he was worth certain things that, deep down, he really wants."

But rather than go into the character's future with season 3, Rogers took a step back to discuss the emotional turmoil he experienced while getting Blitzo to that place.

"I'll tell you what," he continues, "Season 2 was a bitch for me to get through as a co-writer and as an actor. Because there were moments in it that were good for Blitzo, but I didn't want to put him through it. The anti-Blitzo party; it really broke my heart to read that. To see everyone so angry at him because he hurt someone. I'm going to get emotional just talking about it."

In case you haven't watched season 2, episode 9 of Helluva Boss, the "anti-Blitzo party" Rogers is referring to is a moment in the episode Apology Tour in which most everyone Blitzo has ever hurt attends a party thrown by succubus Verosika Mayday. Upon arriving, Blitzo is confronted by the realities of the pain he's caused that, typically, he is able to push away.

"I relate so much to Blitzo," Rogers concludes, "He means so much to me and to see what we have put him through so far has been very tough for me, because I love him very much."

Helluva Boss seasons 1 and 2 come to Prime Video September 10. Hazbin Hotel season 2 arrives October 29.
