Helluva Boss first released its pilot on YouTube in 2019 and it has since racked up more than 69 million views. The animated musical black comedy that’s set in the same world as the runaway hit Hazbin Hotel is getting a new pilot episode when it launches on Amazon Prime Video next month.
Vivienne "VivziePop" Medrano and producer SpindleHorse plan to reintroduce the world of the hell-based assassination firm I.M.P., short for Immediate Murder Professionals, with a new pilot episode now that it's scaling up to one of the largest streaming services.
Morgana Ignis, the actress who portrays Sallie May on Helluva Boss, spills the details at Fan Expo Chicago.
"I can safely tease what's happening on Sept. 10 on Prime that you have not seen before. I can safely tease this. There is going to be a new episode on Prime Video. We have talked about this. It's called 'Mission Zero,'" she said, eliciting gasps from the crowd. "It is a brand-new episode that is basically a jumping-off point for people who have not seen the show before. Basically, it's kind of a pilot redo. For the record, I didn't know that."
There was a straightforward reason for a new pilot episode, Moxxie voice actor Richard Steven Horvitz says at Fan Expo Chicago.
"It's a pilot redo because while we loved our original pilot, it didn't fit the canon of the show and what the show became. This will kind of fix that," Horvitz said.
After the morningstar-bright success of Hazbin Hotel, Amazon Prime Video picked up the indie adult animation, which is being produced by and will air on Prime Video. The streaming service plans to rerelease the first two seasons along with the new Mission Zero episode next month and is producing seasons 3 and 4. After exclusively airing on Prime for a window, Helluva Boss will continue to run on YouTube as it always has.
A success story for indie animators, the underworld-set Helluva Boss has proven to be a devilish delight for many viewers, amassing a large cult following.
Screen Rant host and interviewer Joe Deckelmeier, a moderator at Fan Expo Chicago, said Helluva Boss was one of the most requested panels at the con and had received among the most previously submitted audience questions.
Helluva Boss will be released on Amazon Prime Video on Sept. 10.
