Do Jimmy and Kayla from HBO's Hacks secretly want each other? The actors give their thoughts

Hacks actress Megan Statler thinks Jimmy and Kayla want to start a family together (but not romantically)

One of the most amusing parts of Hacks is the fun interplay between Jimmy and Kayla. In the early episodes of the HBO Max comedy Kayla was Jimmy’s assistant, and she constantly drove him up the wall. Now they’re business partners and co-founders of their own agency, and Kayla is still driving Jimmy up a wall. However, Megan Statler, who plays Kayla, belueves that Jimmy is enjoying her antics more than he lets on.

“It seems like Jimmy is loving it though, don’t you think?” Kayla actress Megan Statler declared during a Hacks panel at PaleyFest 25 LA. “It seems like Jimmy loves that that we’re partners, don’t you think? I was getting from the show it felt almost Kayla was kind of being like, 'Okay, too much now.' Jimmy’s always trying to hook up with her.”

“There is subtext, and Meg usually sees it before anyone else,” Jimmy actor (and series co-creator and co-showrunner) Paul W. Downs countered, but Statler was having none of this: “I mean, I’m like, are we watching the same show? I feel like he’s always trying to get his freak on. And she’s like, 'we’re family, we’re cousins.'".

Statler clarified that Kayla and Jimmy aren’t actually cousins, but she believes their relationship lies in an interesting grey area where family, romance, and work coexist. “I don’t think Kayla and Jimmy want to hook up, but do they want to start a family together, get married, go on vacation, share a bank account? Yeah,” Statler joked.

Hacks is currently streaming on HBO Max, leading up to the series finale on May 28. That means there's still a few weeks for Statler's dream to come true, if you think about it...
