Hazbin Hotel actor suggests villainous Vox is a lot like President Donald Trump - without outright naming the President

A power-hungry madman who uses the media to manipulate and control the masses? Are we talking about Washington or Hell here?

The thing about every form of media that you consume is that it has a message. No matter how outlandish or fantastical, it is saying something about our world and the things happening in it. Even an animated musical set in Hell, like Hazbin Hotel, can make commentary about our leaders in the real world. For example, Vox’s voice actor suggested that the villain and Donald Trump have a lot in common – without mentioning Trump by name.

It was a fleeting moment that happened during the Hazbin Hotel panel at New York Comic Con 2025. Christian Borle, the actor who voices the villainous Vox in Hazbin Hotel, was asked what his character’s greatest strength and greatest weakness were. “His access to media and his ability to manipulate the masses,” Borle commented, quickly adding, “Does that sound familiar at all?”

The comment drew a huge cheer from the crowd. Considering the timing of the comment, which took place in October 2025 when Donald Trump was using his position as President to rail against everyone from late-night talk show hosts to the recent No Kings protests, it wasn’t hard to draw a line from Borle’s take on Vox and Trump’s behavior - although, again, at no point was the President actually mentioned by name. “And his biggest weakness is the fact that he’s just a hurt little boy,” Borle added to answer the second half of the question.
