Hazbin Hotel actor explains how Alastor's place on the aro/ace spectrum helped him understand why the show deeply connected with fans

The Prime Video animated musical gives representation to people who might not otherwise see themselves in media very often

One of the things that makes Hazbin Hotel so beloved is the fact that there is a character out there for everyone. Ahead of season two landing on Prime Video in late October, the cast and crew of Hazbin Hotel were at New York Comic Con 2025 to discuss the show. For Alastor’s voice actor, the character’s place on the aero-ace spectrum not only enlightened him about a whole new facet of sexuality but helped him connect with a part of the fanbase he might never have seen.

During the Hazbin Hotel panel at NYCC 2025, Amir Talai talked about the importance of representation in the show when it comes to connecting with fans. “Representation is something that’s really always been important to me as an actor of color,” Talai explained. “And I think that, and I think I didn’t know when I got involved in this show that my character was on the aro/ace spectrum. And I didn’t know what that meant when I found out. And diving into that… sort of wormhole of understanding and then seeing the way people reacted to that part of him, both online and in person, that was when I was like ‘Oh, this is, this was fun.’”

Talai says that representing a group of people who don’t always get to see themselves in media is part of what has made Hazbin Hotel mean something more to its rabid fanbase. “This was always fun, and I love that it’s a hobby for people, right? Like ‘Hazbin Hotel! I love it!’ It’s fun, but for some people, it means something deeper. And when I really got that, that was a big moment for me.”

You can watch the full Hazbin Hotel panel from New York Comic Con 2025 ahead of season two’s impending arrival, on October 29.
