The Gundam franchise has been going strong since 1979 and shows no sign of stopping. Netflix has gotten in on the mecha action, bringing the upcoming Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance series to international audiences as well as Japan on the same day. The release date for Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance is fast approaching so be sure not to miss it.
This new anime marks a new approach for the franchise, being just the second Gundam series to use computer animation and the first to be developed in the Unreal Engine 5. That’s right, a gaming engine is being used to make an anime series, so if Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance looks a bit like a video game cutscene in the above trailer, you know why. We won’t have to wait long to see the final product, though – Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance’s release date is October 17, 2024 on Netflix.
Taking place in UC 79, during the late stages of the One Year War, Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance is a more grounded, gritty take on the mecha anime genre than you might have seen before. The trailer shows the action being largely confined to Earth rather than in the far reaches of space. It isn’t the first time we’ve seen Gundams fighting on our home planet but that doesn’t change the shock of seeing these giant robots battling it out in a city like the man-made kaiju that they are.
Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance is arriving on Netflix on October 17, 2024.
