When DC Studios' Creature Commandos debuted on HBO Max, Sean Gunn's GI Robot instantly earned fans' hearts for his benevolence and single-minded goal: to kill Nazis. Thankfully, the World War II robot will be returning for Creature Commandos' sophomore season. 

At Emerald City Comic Con 2026's Hooked on a Feeling: A Guardians of the Galaxy Cast panel, Sean Gunn talked about his love for playing GI Robot. "I'm currently working on season 2 of this show called Creature Commandos on HBO Max, and I play a character called GI Robot who's been around fighting Nazis since World War II. And bless his heart, I think there's a lot of use today for GI Robot. There's an overlap there between those who fight fascism and are opposed to it on all its levels," Gunn said with a smile. 

Part of the plot of Creature Commandos season 1 was GI Robot gradually realizing that there were still plenty of Nazis around him that he needed to eliminate, even though World War II had ended decades and decades before. The season ended with the reveal that he had been repaired after "dying" (if we can even say that for a robot) earlier in the show. 

Perhaps we'll see in season 2 of Creature Commandos what GI Robot's feelings are about his mission having no end in sight, all these years later. 

Creature Commandos season 2 is currently in production for HBO Max with no premiere date announced - but you can watch the full Hooked on a Feeling: A Guardians of the Galaxy Cast panel from ECCC 2026 below while you wait.
