CBS' Ghosts cast has ideas for what could come in upcoming seasons - and pitched showrunner Joe Wiseman live during a panel

Whenever there's a showrunner, cast members, and fans in one room, the pitches for future story ideas run amok. Some of these could be hints, while others are wish fulfillment. Either way, with another season being planned for 2027, now is the time to get those ideas public.

What happens when you get a showrunner, actors, and fans together in one room? You get a lot of pitches for story ideas, most of which are dreadful. On the rare occasion though, some are actual hints for the future, others are pure wishes, and some of them are legit story ideas. There was a little bit of everything recently at the CBS Ghosts panel during San Diego Comic-Con

To set this up, allow me to remind fans that back in February, Ghosts was picked up through Season 6. So with the knowledge that the series had a minimum of 44 more episodes to work with, the running gag through the panel was that panelists and fans were throwing a lot at showrunner Joe Wiseman, hoping anything would stick. We'll give each of these pitches a shake of the Magic 8 Ball to see what's the likelihood we'll see it by Season 6.

Ghosts pitch about Sasappis

Now that's they're filming for Season 5, it makes think that Wiseman’s response to a fan asking if we’ll ever figure out what actually happened to Sasappis more curious.

“Really good question,” Wiseman replied. “That’s something we talk about a lot and we are striving to do that. Yes, we’re crafting that story and it’s something we talk about a lot. That’s the last big mystery.”

So this one is definitely happening, but if they’re just beginning to craft the story now, at earliest we would see this story it would be in the second half of Season 5. It seems more likely though that his is a Season 6 storyline, especially since Wiseman said they now have time to tell their stories.

Magic 8 Ball says: Outlook Good.

Ghosts pitch about Woodstone Manor, Flat Maria, and Oskar

Devan Chandler Long might have had the most pitches in the panel as he put out three of them and addressed the other one this way.

Punam Patel asked him if there was any chance there would be more therapy sessions using Sam. He responded in Thorfinn voice, “Thor’s gotten two sessions in two years. Thor done the work.”

Long asked about whether or not we’d ever see a flashback of his ex, Flat Maria, whom he dated, before she was trampled. The other is for a whole episode about Oskar, the squirrel Thorfinn once ate for survival. Both of these were passed off as jokes for the panel, but were they?

Finally, Long made a passing comment about whether or not we’ll ever find out why all these people keep dying at Woodstone and ghosts rarely get “sucked off” from the Earth. That surprisingly did not get any response from Wiseman or even the crowd, which is probably just as big a mystery as Sasappis’ death.

Of these pitches, we’re more than likely seeing Thor, Sam and the therapist back on the couch, but all of Long’s pitches are episodes worth watching.

Ghosts pitch for Jay and Sasappis

Utkarsh Ambudkar acted like he had some intel saying that he heard a guarantee from a little birdie that Sasappis and Jay would be in an episode inside Jay’s dreams, back to back, in a jungle fighting insurgents with bow and arrows and shirtless. One could see him angling for a fun action sequence.

Long interrupted Ambudkar to ask where all of these birds are that are talking to each other, because he hasn’t heard any “birds” talking. “Well,” Ambudkar replied. “You gotta make birds up, man.

That last line is a dead giveaway that it was a pitch, and probably one that won’t be happening anytime soon. But Jay’s dreams will most likely be infiltrated again in the near future.

Magic 8 Ball says: Reply hazy. Try again.

Ghosts pitch for Alberta

Pinnock was asked about the musical episode, “A Star is Dead” where Sam performs with an acting troupe that rents out the manor for Anything Goes. As a theatre geek, she would love any chance she can get to perform and sing on a stage again, with Rose McIver.

Then she pitched for an episode where her and Pete sing a duet, but she requested some more contemporary songs, something by Creed or “Creep” by Radiohead, which she started singing.

With her power being, well, underwhelming (the living can hear her hum) anytime Pinnock can belt out some tunes it’s a good thing. Her other power is that Amazon’s Alexa can hear her so why wouldn’t she want to learn music, something post-Prohibition-era.

Magic 8 Ball says: Most likely

Ghosts pitch about young Sam

Near the end of the panel, a fan asked if there’s a chance that there could be a flashback episode when Sam goes back to visit Woodstone Manor as a kid and could see the ghosts. This is a callback to Young Hetty who could see and hear Thorfinn as a child but thought it was an imaginary friend who she named Gordon.

This one got the biggest “oooh” from the crowd with some applause. Even Wiseman was impressed by it and you could tell the gears were turning in his head. It seems like that idea had never been brought up or thought up before.

Magic 8 Ball says: Cannot predict now

Ghosts returns to CBS and Paramount+ on October 16.
