Think you want Critical Role's live events to be streamed into your home? According to lore-keeper Dani Carr, you don't

Yes, Critical Role episodes are livestreamed. But the live theater shows are a different beast, argues Carr, and that beast requires an editor

Critical Role is, among many other things, a regular livestreamed event. Fans have come to expect a new episode streamed right from CR HQ into their homes with regularity (mostly), so much so that the phrase 'Is it Thursday yet?' has become part of Critter culture. So as you can imagine, when the cast of Critical Role schedules a live theater show, fans wonder why not all of them are streaming at the same time as they're being put on.

But according to the person who developed the 'Is it Thursday yet?' mantra herself, that wouldn't be as appealing a prospect as you might think.

That person is, of course, Dani Carr, the Lore Keeper in Chief for Critical Role's sprawling D&D actual play saga. Carr recently spoke with YouTuber Jordon Brown about her evolving role in the series, which has always involved keeping the plot of CR's campaigns straight. As such, Brown asked Carr if she would travel to Critical Role's (world-wide, constantly sold out) live shows to make sure she gathered all she needed to know from what happened at them.

"One of the things that we've been able to do through the magic of technology," Carr explained, "Is send out a streamlink, so I'm usually able to either watch the [live show] as it's happening, even if we aren't streaming out. It's just a private stream and it's terrible quality - I hope people don't listen to this and be like, 'Why don't they broadcast that?' You don't want that; you don't want that."

Though Carr explains that this internal streaming of Critical Role's live shows suits her purposes (that is, to gather the story beats from the event), she holds to the notion that the world should never see this version of Exandria. And a big reason for that is that they're missing the touch of some of the most important folks in the Critical Role crew - the editors.

"I cannot espouse enough how incredible our editing team is," Carr concluded, "They turn these line cuts around of these four-to-five hour episodes within 24 hours, and everybody suddenly has the line cut. That's when I'm able to go back and either take the notes from the beginning or go back and listen to certain moments. They're an incredible, incredible team of amazing people."

Critical Role Campaign 4 is streaming now on the group's BeaconYouTube, and Twitch channels.

With two animated series on Prime Video, Campaign 4 in full swing, and so much more Exandrian lore to come, Critical Role is showing no signs of slowing down. That's why the adventuring party at Popverse are here to bring you everything we can from those nerdy-ass voice actors & Bo., including:

...and much, much more. Roll initiative, player. Magic awaits.
