If you were a kid in the late '80s and '90s, it was hard to escape Full House. Or rather, it seemed like we were all in the Full House. The ABC sitcom launched the careers of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and was a Friday night staple for eight seasons. It centers on a young widower named Danny Tanner, played by the late Bob Saget, who brings in his brother-in-law Jesse (John Stamos) and best friend Joey (Dave Coulier) to live with him and his three daughters in San Francisco. It's long been said that it takes a village to raise a child, and in the case of Danny Tanner's daughters, it takes a Full House.
The show was revived with a sequel series, Fuller House, on Netflix. Unlike dozens of Netflix shows, Fuller House ran for a whopping 5 seasons. Without further ado, let's get into how you can watch Full House and Fuller House in release and chronological order.
How to watch Full House and Fuller House in release order
Full House began back in 1987, just a year after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The show was notable in that its child actors grew up with the characters that they portrayed as the show went on. Like so many other sitcoms at the time, Full House had a crossover with another ABC sitcom, Hangin' With Mr. Cooper. Fuller House hit Netflix in 2016, before wrapping up its final season in 2020. To watch Full House and Fuller House in release order and race through the first half of the 1990s, here's how you would do it:
- Full House - season 1 (1987-1988)
- Full House - season 2 (1988-1989)
- Full House - season 3 (1989-1990)
- Full House - season 4 (1990-1991)
- Full House - season 5 (1991-1992)
- Hangin' With Mr. Cooper - season 1, episode 2 ("Hangin With Michelle") (1992)
- Full House - season 6 (1992-1993)
- Full House - season 7 (1993-1994)
- Full House - season 8 (1994-1995)
- Fuller House - season 1 (2016)
- Fuller House - season 2 (2016)
- Fuller House - season 3 (2017)
- Fuller House - season 4 (2018)
- Fuller House - season 5 (2019-2020)
How to watch Full House and Fuller House in chronological order
As stated earlier, Full House is shaped by the fact that the characters age in real time with their actors. So unlike shows like The Simpsons, where Maggie Simpson has been a baby for longer than some tax-paying adults have been alive, Full House and Fuller House progressed in a linear fashion. This makes your plans for watching the show in chronological order much easier, because all you need to do is follow the same release order. Simplicity can be beautiful.
- Full House - season 1 (1987-1988)
- Full House - season 2 (1988-1989)
- Full House - season 3 (1989-1990)
- Full House - season 4 (1990-1991)
- Full House - season 5 (1991-1992)
- Hangin' With Mr. Cooper - season 1, episode 2 ("Hangin With Michelle") (1992)
- Full House - season 6 (1992-1993)
- Full House - season 7 (1993-1994)
- Full House - season 8 (1994-1995)
- Fuller House - season 1 (2016)
- Fuller House - season 2 (2016)
- Fuller House - season 3 (2017)
- Fuller House - season 4 (2018)
- Fuller House - season 5 (2019-2020)
Where can I watch the Full House series?
You can stream the original Full House series on Prime Video if you have Max there, or you can stream directly on Max. Fuller House is streaming on Netflix.
What happened to Danny's wife on Full House?
Danny's wife, Pam, was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver.
Why did they change Jesse's last name in Full House?
John Stamos's character, Jesse, was originally named Jesse Cochran when the series began. However, during season 2 of Full House, his last name was changed to Katsopolis. Reportedly, Stamos, who is of Greek descent, wanted his character's name to also reflect his heritage.
Why isn't Michelle in Fuller House?
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen both turned down the opportunity to return to the role of Michelle Tanner for Fuller House. The two sisters have left behind their acting careers for the world of fashion, where they have their own fashion label, The Row. Given the success of The Row, it's not surprising that the Olsens would not want to return to acting.
Will there be a Fullest House?
At the moment, there are no plans from Netflix or beyond for a sequel series to Fuller House. Considering that the show name for Fuller House came from DJ's husband's last name, Fuller, a series called "Fullest House" would imply that a character's last name is "Fullest." However, it should also be noted that no one in the original Full House show was named "Full," so there is that.
