Friday Night Lights eyes a reboot, but don't expect to see Michael B. Jordan or Connie Britton's Tami Taylor

Producers of the original NBC hit are planning a reboot of the beloved football drama, but none of the original cast are attached

Suddenly, “Texas forever” seems like more than just an in-joke between fans. More than a decade after audiences last visited Dillon, Texas, it’s being reported that producers are planning a reboot of popular drama series (and prime motivational tool for life) Friday Night Lights.

Few details are available about the project, beyond the fact the series will not feature any of the cast of the first television incarnation of the show. However, the new series will have original executive producers Brian Grazer, Pete Berg, and Jason Katims attached.

The original television incarnation of Friday Night Lights ran from 2006 through 2011, initially on NBC before moving to the now-defunct DirecTV 101 Network for its final two years. An adaptation of both the non-fiction book Friday Night Lights: A Town, A Team, and A Dream, and the 2004 movie adaptation of that book, the series was a critically acclaimed drama about a fictional Texas town and the football teams and football culture that the town centers around. The series made stars of much of its core cast, including Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, Jesse Plemons, Michael B. Jordan, Taylor Kitsch, Adrianne Palicki, and Minka Kelly.

The show is currently being offered to networks and streamers by Universal Television and Imagine Entertainment, according to reports, although it doesn’t currently have a home. Given the pedigree of the show, that feels like it could change very quickly — after all, who wouldn’t want the chance to discover the next Coach Taylor, America's finest fictional father? Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t miss out.
