Ella Purnell has had success with video game adaptations, and she isn’t sure if that’s a good thing. You might know the actress as the voice of Jinx in Arcane. She also plays Lucy MacLean in Fallout. However, her habit of starring in video game adaptations has Purnell worried that she might become known as the video game girl. There’s a bit of irony to this, since Purnell admits she doesn’t play many games.
Speaking to a crowd at MCM x EGX 2024, Ella Purnell mused about her place in video game culture. “Here’s the truth, and I feel guilty saying this, but I’m not a gamer, and I don’t know how I’ve managed to land two video game adaptations that have both been good. I don’t know how that’s happened, but it has. I don’t know the answer.”
While Purnell loves her roles in Arcane and Fallout, she fears that it might lead to a pattern.
"I actually think I need to stay away from video game adaptations now, because I’m going to get typecast. I’m going to be the video game girl. There are worse things to be than that, I suppose.”
You can watch our full hour-long interview with Purnell which took place as a panel at MCM x EGX 2024 here.
Fallout is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, wit Arcane on Netflix.
