Dragon Ball Super returns with Galactic Patrol arc and with the Battle of Gods arc getting the Dragon Ball Z Kai treatment
It seems that the confusion over Dragon Ball rights that kicked off after Akira Toriyama's death has been resolved and Toei Animation are eager to bring more Dragon Ball Super anime to fans.

Nearly 40 years ago, the Dragon Ball anime began airing in Japan, starting its journey to make Goku one of the most influential and iconic figures in anime history. However, the last time a new Dragon Ball anime was aired was Dragon Ball Daima in 2024, which, following Akira Toriyama’s death earlier that year, seemed like it could be the final entry in the iconic anime franchise. Now, Toei Animation is making up for lost time by giving us two Dragon Ball anime series.
There were several big announcements that came out of the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event in Japan over the weekend, but two will have anime fans particularly excited. First, a brand-new Dragon Ball Super anime is set to enter production, marking the first new series in the franchise since Daima and the first to start production after Akira Toriyama’s death. This new Dragon Ball Super anime arc will adapt the Galactic Patrol arc from the manga and seems to be a sign that tensions have cooled in the fight over the rights to Dragon Ball.
On top of that, Dragon Ball Super is getting the Kai treatment, with a remastered and recut version of the Battle of Gods arc from the anime airing in Fall 2026. This version, titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, promises “new cuts, revisions to existing scenes, a complete re-rendering of all footage, newly recorded dubbing with added score and sound effects, and a full reconstruction of the story,” which is very similar to what we got with Dragon Ball Z Kai back in 2009. That also saw a remaster of the animation and a recut of the series to remove filler, something that a lot of the Battle of Gods arc could use.
The Dragon Ball Super Galactic Patrol arc is set to go into production soon, while Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, a remaster of the first arc of the Dragon Ball Super anime, is set to air in Fall 2026.
