Demon Slayer voice actors Abby Trott and Aleks Le gush over their favorite scene together (so far)

Without the help of Nezuko and Zenitsu, the Demon Slayer Corps would not be successful. But through all the seriousness of slaying demons, our heroes need some levity too. Popverse had the opportunity to speak to Abby Trott and Aleks Le, actors who voiced Nezuko and Zenitsu at San Diego Comic-Con 2025. When asked them what scene they recorded together was their favorite, they both came up with a singular funny scene during the Swordsmith Village arc.

“My favorite moment is when, I think it's the Swordsmith Village arc, when Zenitsu is returning to the village after the mission he had been sent on, and he sees Nezuko out in sun for the first time,” Trott explained. “He is very excited to chat with her. But she calls him ‘Inosuke’ and he loses his mind.”

This is one of the biggest moments of the Swordsmith Village arc because Nezuko is finally able to walk into sunlight. It’s one the thing that Muzan Kibutsuji was hoping would happen back in Season 1, Episode 1, when he destroyed Tanjiro’s family and turned his sister Nezuko into a demon.

Zenitsu is jubilant at the thought of her newfound sun immunity and her being able to join him on day missions. He can’t wait to chat with her, but then Nezuko accidentally calling Zenitsu “Inosuke” (their fellow shirtless slayer who wears a hog’s head) really sets him off.

"There's a very funny line where he goes ‘In… In… os… uke…’ and it's almost glottal, like it’s swallowed to the point where you can’t hear it. Initially when I did that, I tried to get into character and I was like, ‘Oh no, is that too hard to understand?’”

“But then everybody in the room laughed and they really liked how that sounded. So we kept it and it just sounded really funny with the entire scene together.”

“I laughed so hard when I heard Alek’s take,” Trott giggled. “That's my favorite part!”

Demon Slayer fans in the US still have time to catch up or complete a full rewatch since the first Infinity Castle film won’t see theaters until September. Demon Slayer already became the biggest anime when Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Mugen Train overtook Spirited Away as the highest grossing film in Japan back in 2020. Globally, the anime has grown in popularity since then. As for the reasons why it’s shot up in popularity so quickly?

First of all, one must give credit to Koyoharu Gotouge’s art and story that first appeared in Weekly Shoen manga. It’s his work that has ignited the imagination of readers everywhere. As of July 2025, Demon Slayer has over 220 million copies in circulation worldwide. That’s phenomenal when one considers it has just 23 collected volumes. Of the six series ahead of it in terms of total sales, the next lowest volume count is Dragon Ball with 42 volumes. Golgo 13 tops them all with 215 volumes, and One Piece is still at the top with 516.6 millions copies in circulation. Trott tried her best to pin on the growth of the anime on the intangible qualities.

“First of all, it's an incredible story,” Trott listed. “I think that the themes really hit home with people. People can really relate to–first of all, the love for your family and friends and fighting for that love. Then also things like tragedy. There's themes of loss and tragedy in this that everyone can relate to.”

“This show especially during COVID really hit home with a lot of people who were stuck at home, watching Demon Slayer and it helped a lot of people get through those tough times. We've heard that from a lot of fans who we've talked to about the show.”

“So I think it's a combination of it just being an incredible story, very well produced, gorgeous animation, incredible music, amazing sound, impeccable voice acting, all of those things plus thematically, it's just such a time for this story.”
