Daredevil: Born Again showrunner says Kingpin’s political career ends soon, and the show is heading back to Frank Miller comic inspiration

Don't expect Mayor Fisk's tenure to last that much longer.

In season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again, Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk (AKA Kingpin) became the Mayor of New York City, mirroring the Mayor Fisk storyline of Charles Soule and Ron Garney's Daredevil run. But ahead of Daredevil: Born Again's second season, the showrunner Dario Scardapane has already stated that Fisk's days in Gracie Mansion are numbered.

"Getting into the realm of politics, New York politics, the Game of Thrones intrigue behind the scenes… okay, that’s fun too, but as it becomes almost too topical it feels like it’s going away from the large, mythological genre stuff. So as we finish up the Mayor Fisk run with season 2, as that storyline comes to its inevitable conclusion, what we’re doing going forward feels more like a return to the [Frank] Miller-era comics. So yeah, it was fun to play in the realm of politics but I like something a little more street level, personally," Scardapane said in an interview with SFX magazine

Since becoming Mayor, Fisk has been struggling to contain his more brutal, savage side as a former crime boss used to smashing his enemies' heads in with a car door (we all remember that scene from the original Netflix Daredevil show - whew). Sure, that didn't stop him from crushing the police commissioner's head in like a hippo with a watermelon in the final episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 1, but this is a guy who killed his father with a hammer when he was a kid. He's demonstrated time and time again that no matter how neatly he can make an omelette, no matter how many pristine white suits he owns, he'll always choose violence.

Anyways, we'll see how the chips fall when Daredevil: Born Again season 2 begins streaming on Disney+ on March 24, 2026.
