The two stars of CW's Superman & Lois asked their bosses not to put Lois & Clark in any love triangles

Superman & Lois actors Tyler Toechlin and Bitsie Tulloch told the CW that they wanted Lois and Clark’s marriage to be free of love triangles

When Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch were offered their own Arrowverse spinoff, they had one demand – no love triangles.

While their versions of Lois Lane and Clark Kent are a happily married couple, the concern about love triangles was reasonable. When you look at the various DC Comics shows that aired on the CW, love triangles were abundant. If you need examples, watch early episodes of Smallville, The Flash, Supergirl, and Arrow.

For Superman & Lois, Hoechlin and Tulloch wanted to do something different.

“We just wanted them to be an insanely strong team,” Tyler Hoechlin says during a panel at GalaxyCon Raleigh 2025. “We never wanted any love triangles or anything like that. No, these guys are solid, and they’re together. Whether they have a disagreement or an argument or whatever, at the end of the day, they are teammates to the max. That was going to be something we were not going to compromise on.”

Superman & Lois premiered in 2021 and ran for four seasons. The supporting cast included Lana Lang, a character who has been in love triangles with Superman and Lois in numerous pieces of media for decades. However, while there was a lot of drama surrounding Lana and her family, none of that drama had anything to do with her romantic history with Clark or any feelings of jealousy.

Warner Bros. Television and CW gave Superman and Lois a happy, healthy, and adult marriage, and the show was better for it.

Here's how to watch all the Superman movies & TV shows in order.
