“Smut transcends realms and time”: Why Tusk Love is the most enduring piece of Critical Role lore
The Critical Role cast want to publish an edition of Tusk Love in Orcish

Tusk Love is a piece of Critical Role lore that has taken on a life of its own. It started off as a smutty romance novel that existed within the universe of Critical Role’s second campaign. Jenny Lavorre, a tiefling cleric, was obsessed with the book and made numerous references to it.
And then Critters did what they were best at and expanded the idea. Thea Guanzon wrote a real version of the book, and wouldn’t you know it, the novel became a best-seller. So, what’s next? The Critical Role cast pondered publishing a version in the Orcish language.
“We should! There’s been books released in Klingon. So, we should do that,” Laura Bailey says during a Critical Role spotlight panel at Emerald City Comic Con 2026.
“I think I know a couple linguists we can talk to,” Matthew Mercer says. “I’m going to talk to [Brennan Lee Mulligan]. If anything is going to crossover, it should be that,” Bailey adds.
“I think Tusk Love is one of those nexus points between all dimensions,” Liam O’Brien says. “It’s an Infinity Stone, that’s what you’re saying. What you’re saying is smut transcends realms and time,” Mercer says.
That’s the money quote right there. It doesn’t matter what story they’re telling, what time period they’re in, which realm they’re exploring, and what campaign they’re playing – Tusk Love is eternal, because smut transcends realms and time.
With two animated series on Prime Video, Campaign 4 in full swing, and so much more Exandrian lore to come, Critical Role is showing no signs of slowing down. That's why the adventuring party at Popverse are here to bring you everything we can from those nerdy-ass voice actors & Bo., including:

- Travis Willingham on the differences between The Legend of Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein
- Taliesin Jaffe on playing Mollymauk Tealeaf for Campaign 2 vs. playing him for Prime Video
- Matt Mercer's homebrew warrior class (created originally for Vin Diesel)
...and much, much more. Roll initiative, player. Magic awaits.
