Critical Role's Sam Riegel confirms at least one Campaign 2 guest star is coming to The Mighty Nein... and we even have a list of who it might be
Critical Role Campaign 2 guest stars Deborah Ann Woll or Chris Perkins might just make an appearance in Prime Video's The Mighty Nein. But they're not the only possibilities...

Critical Role Campaign 2 is perhaps the most-beloved of the four core campaigns the D&D actual play series has put on, and I have to assume some of that comes from the list of delightful guest stars. A number of well-known names in the TTRPG and voice acting community lent their talents to what became the story of The Mighty Nein, so naturally, when the tale got its animated adaptation from Prime Video, fans were keen to know if any of those characters were going to make it into the screen.
Now, we have an answer to that question... just not a specific one.
The very vague answer we have comes from Critical Role's Fireside Chat, a talkback series hosted on Beacon where members of the Critical Role team take questions from fans. This past December, the show spotlighted perhaps the most important players in the Mighty Nein animated adaptation - that is, Critical Role Production's CEO Sam Riegel and The Mighty Nein's showrunner Tasha Huo. At one point in the discussion, a fan wrote in to ask the following question:
"Will we see characters played by guest players during the Mighty Nein campaign appear in the show down the road?"
After taking a moment to consider the question, Riegel requested that an off-camera "Dani," probably referring to Critical Role's lorekeeper Dani Carr, "help me out here" in remembering which guest stars the question could be asking about. Together, Riegel and Dani assembled a host of notable Campaign 2 cameos, which we've listed alongside their characters here:
- Mica Burton, who plays aasimar druid Reani
- Deborah Ann Woll, who plays gnome rogue Twiggy
- Mara Holmes, who plays half-elven sorcerer Calianna Mordsson
- Khary Payton, who plays human cleric Shakäste
- Ashly Burch, who plays dwarven fighter Keg
- Chris Perkins, who plays kobold inventor Spurt
- Sumalee Montano, who plays firbolg druid Nila
"Of that list," Riegel stated, "I can guarantee that at least one of those will make an appearance [yes, he said it in bold], because we know what happens in the show. Maybe two? No. At least one or two."
"Definitely one," said Huo knowingly.
"And then the others..." Riegel said, "We've got plans for... some."
"We've got plans for a lot," Huo concluded.
Hold on a second here - what was that last bit? Because the way they talk about them, it sure seemed like Huo and Riegel's "plans" for the other characters were outside of their plans for The Mighty Nein. Or am I just reading into that? Maybe it's the fact that Riegel just revealed some surprising plans for a Critical Role movie in the works, or maybe it's just that Sam and Tasha just seem suspicious when they're together. In any case, we'll be keeping an eye out for The Mighty Nein season 2's cast announcements.
In the meantime, The Mighty Nein season 1 is streaming on Prime Video now.
With two animated series on Prime Video, Campaign 4 in full swing, and so much more Exandrian lore to come, Critical Role is showing no signs of slowing down. That's why the adventuring party at Popverse are here to bring you everything we can from those nerdy-ass voice actors & Bo., including:
- Critical Role's Campaign 4 characters ranked
- How to watch Critical Role in order
- Ways for you to relive the Critical Role panel from ECCC '26
- Taliesin Jaffe on playing Mollymauk Tealeaf for Campaign 2 vs. playing him for Prime Video
- Matt Mercer's homebrew warrior class (created originally for Vin Diesel)
...and much, much more. Roll initiative, player. Magic awaits.
