The Critical Role cast think the Imodna relationship is toxic because there is no self-care

Critical Role’s Marisha Ray and Laura Bailey admit the Imogen Temult and Laudna relationship wasn’t entirely healthy

It’s okay to admit that your favorite ship isn’t perfect. Relationships could be messy, whether they’re a real-life romance, or a fictional one birthed during a tabletop gaming session. Our favorite fictional couples have their flaws, even if they’re cute together.

Imogen Tamult (voiced by Laura Bailey) and Laudna (voiced by Marisha Ray) were a power couple during Critical Role Campaign 3 with the ship name Imodna. Yes, they were adorable, but the voice actors think they were so devoted to one another that they completely neglected self-care. This brought up an interesting question – is it toxic to devote yourself so completely to a partner?

Ray made it clear that Laudna was only concerned about Imogen, with no thought for herself. “Concerned for you, 100%,” Marisha Ray says during a Critical Role spotlight panel at New York Comic Con 2023. “Same,” Laura Bailey says.

“Concern for myself? None,” Ray continues. Same,” Bailey replies.  “Zero self-preservation,” Ray adds.

“Is that healthy in a relationship to only care about another person,” Sam Riegel asks. “There’s a lot of that in this group actually the more I think about it,” Taliesin Jaffe says. “Where is the line between altruism and codependency,” moderator Whitney Moore asks.

Sometimes a tabletop game can surprise you and make you look at love in a new way. Imodna may not be a completely healthy ship, but they are definitely a thought provoking one.
