You know what they say – the family that slays together, stays together. Casting for the revival of Buffy the Vampire Slayer has just started, and it seems like it might be a bit of a family affair. Buffy actress Sarah Michelle Gellar has said that not only will she return to Sunnydale, but some kids of the original cast may be coming along for the ride.

During a joint interview with Alyson Hannigan, who played Willow in all seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it was inevitable that Sarah Michelle Gellar would get asked about the cast for the revival series. “I know somebody who auditioned for something on the show.”

That is a remarkably cryptic way of putting it, but turns out the show might have a more generational twist to it than we expected. “I know somebody who was on the show whose child auditioned on the show. I know a few people from the show whose children came in.”

“It better not have been one of my kids!” Hannigan replied with a laugh.

It seems like the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival, which is still relatively early in its development and doesn’t have a release date yet, is going to be very focused on passing the torch from one generation of Slayer to the next, which would be an interesting way to involve the kids of the original cast who have grown up in the years since the show went off the air. Already Sarah Michelle Gellar has hinted at that theme when she revealed that Ryan Kiera Armstrong would be playing the new Chosen One in the show despite the fact that Buffy is still alive and kicking.

No other castings have been announced, including if any of the original cast will return and act alongside their children. Personally, we’re hoping that at least one gets stabbed in the back by their offspring. It is what every parent expects, after all.
