H. Jon Benjamin says that after 15 years of Bob's Burgers, he's "become" Bob Belcher (but he's not into making burgers)
H. Jon Benjamin might not be the cook that the Belcher family patriarch is, but that isn't to say that Bob hasn't taught him anything... especially when it comes to dealing with family

Longtime fans of Bob's Burgers would surely agree - the world could use more real-life Bob Belchers. Supportive, passionate about his craft, and not in the least bit toxic, he's the kid of person - the kind of dad - that seem to be fewer and farther between these days. But here's the thing, Belcher Buddies, Bob is becoming more real by the day, because according to Bob's voice actor, H. Jon Benjamin, he's becoming more of the actor's personality as the show goes on.
Benjamin recently sat down for a series retrospective with Variety, 15 years after the animated family sitcom aired on Fox. During the discussion, he touched on the character's effect on his real life, particularly in the voice he uses day to day.
"II didn’t sound like this at all 15 years ago," the Wet Hot American Summer star says, "Now I talk like Bob [...] I've become him."
But what exactly does that mean, besides the signature vocal shift? For example, we all know Bob Belcher to be the most talented burger-maker in all of animation. Has that part of his personality rubbed off on Benjamin?
"I don’t make burgers," he says. "They’re better made elsewhere."
OK, well that's a little disappointing. Here I was hoping to one day have a 'Baby, You Can Chive My Car,' or one of the other incredible pun-based Burgers of the Day from the series. But what about Bob's other superpower - that is, being an incredible dad? Has Benjamin's parenting changed along with his role?
"Bob is a really good parent, " the actors concludes, "Very supportive, very present, pretty patient. He’s a good dad for what he has to go through. [...] I’m a terrible dad. I’m like the exact opposite. Thankfully, Bob’s Burgers totally helped my parenting. I was the meanest dad. And then I slowly started getting more like Bob—but it was too late."
Variety notes that this line was delivered as a joke, but you know, there's another way you can take it. Bob Belcher is, after all, a pretty humble guy, maybe even a tad on the self-deprecating side. Perhaps this is just the Belcher in Benjamin coming out even more.
Bob's Burgers is streaming now on Hulu.
