Blue Bloods: Everything you need to know about watching the Reagan family

You’ve heard of crime families, but have you ever heard of a law family? Blue Bloods is a police procedural that focuses on the Reagans, a family of law enforcement officers who live in New York City. Tom Selleck stars as Frank Reagan, New York City Police Commissioner and patriarch of the family. The Reagans work hard to keep the streets of New York clean, while juggling their own family drama. However, no matter how hard things get, they can always count on their Sunday family dinners to reconnect and heal….most of the time.

If you’ve ever wanted to dive into Blue Bloods but wasn’t sure how, Popverse is here to help! This guide will tell you everything you need to know about how to watch the critically acclaimed police procedural.

How to watch Blue Bloods in order

Are you ready to patrol the streets of New York alongside the Reagans? Watching Blue Bloods in order isn’t that complicated. As of this writing, the franchise only consists of a single show, and the episodes keep a fairly straightforward chronology. In other words, there are no complicated flashbacks and flashforwards like LOST. Just start with Blue Bloods season 1 episode 1 and keep going from there.

Has Blue Bloods crossed over with any other television shows?

To date, Blue Bloods has not had any crossovers with other television properties. However, that hasn’t stopped one of the cast members from pitching his own. During a YouTube question and answer session, Donnie Wahlberg said he would love to see Blue Bloods crossover with NCIS: LA. Wahlberg stated that he liked the idea because they could film in LA, where it’s significantly warmer than New York in the winter.

Wahlberg also suggested a crossover with Hawaii Five-O. Something tells me he was just looking for ways to escape the cold weather…

Is Blue Bloods ending?

Blue Bloods is currently airing its 14th and final season. The series finale is expected to air on December 13, 2024. Although most of the cast and crew were eager to continue the series, CBS and Paramount were unable to come to an agreement that would save the show. However, this isn’t necessarily the end of our time with the Reagans…

Will there be a spinoff of Blue Bloods?

Blue Bloods is wrapping up after 14 seasons, but this might not be the end of the franchise. CBS and Paramount are currently looking for ways to continue the franchise through a spinoff. At one point, a spinoff starring Danny Reagan was being considered, but that seems to be abandoned for now. CBS Studios president David Stapf has said that he wants the franchise to live on in some form. “We’re got to get it right,” Stapf told Deadline.

The future of Blue Bloods may be up in the air, but the Reagan family always has a few surprises up their sleeves. I have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of them.

Is Blue Bloods really filmed in New York?

Some television dramas try to recreate New York using soundstages, backlots, or by pretending that downtown Los Angeles is actually NYC. However, Blue Bloods keeps things authentic by filming on location throughout New York City. Tom Selleck has stressed the importance of filming in New York City, believing that it helps ground the show. Selleck has also said that NYC can also be considered one of the most important characters of the series.

What is the birth order on Blue Bloods?

If you’re wondering about the birth order of the Reagan siblings…well…the show hasn’t been consistent with the answer. The general accepted order is Danny as the oldest, then Erin, Joe, and Jamie. This birth order is backed up by CBS’s official website.

However, some episodes state that Joe was the oldest. We can chalk this up to a continuity error. For one, Joe’s gravestone states that he was born in 1977. In 2015 Erin celebrated her 40th birthday, which means she was born in 1975, two years before Joe. References to character ages and birth order tend to shift depending on the writer or storyline. Any reference that places the birth order in a different sequence should be taken with a grain of salt.

Why did Jennifer Esposito leave Blue Bloods?

Detective Jackie Curatola was an integral part of the first three seasons of Blue Bloods. However, the character was written off the show in the season 3 episode ‘Nightmares.’ Citing burnout, Detective Curatola embarked on an early retirement. However, the truth behind her departure was another story.

Jennifer Esposito, who played Detective Curatola, was struggling with celiac disease. After a medical episode on set, Esposito spoke with CBS about scaling back her schedule for health reasons. Instead, the network wrote Detective Curatola off.

However, that wasn’t the end of Jennifer Esposito’s time on Blue Bloods. Curatola returned for a guest appearance in the season 13 episode ‘Forgive Us Our Trespasses’ and the season 14 episode ‘Dropping Bombs.’ During her return, we learn that Curatola had become a police chief for a small town. Her return was a highlight and a great way to give her character a better ending.
