Apple TV+ cancels Dick Turpin series midway through filming season 2 due to Great British Baking Show star Noel Fielding's absence

The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin won't get its second season - even after filming was apparently 75% finished - because star Noel Fielding hasn't reported back to set after the holiday break.

Everything seemed to be going well for the cast and crew of The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin. Season two was about three-quarters of the way through filming and a whole host of British comedy icons were set to make an appearance on the Apple TV+ series. However, a snag has brought filming to a halt and it seems like Great British Baking Show host Noel Fielding is at the center of it.

The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, both tonally and in its content, felt like a kindred spirit to Our Flag Means Death, and now, we can add "untimely cancellation" to the similarities between the two. According to reports, the issue began after the recent holiday break. Noel Fielding hasn’t returned to set and, unable to continue without the show’s star, production has had to be stopped and the rest of the season has been scrapped. The footage that has already been filmed is reportedly unusable on its own, meaning that a scaled-back season isn’t an option.

The reason that Fielding didn’t show up on set when filming began in January hasn’t been confirmed, but it does appear that his health is the issue. Fielding’s agent said “one of the main cast members who has not been well is not recovered enough to complete the filming,” with Deadline reporting that the cast member in question was Noel Fielding himself. The fact that Apple TV+ has completely canceled the series rather than simply delay filming says that there is little chance that a delay would give the star time to recover.

This wouldn’t be the first time Fielding has had to drop out at the last minute. He has missed portions of filming The Great British Baking Show finale in the past due to illness. The result this time is that the rest of the cast and crew of The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin are out of work unexpectedly and likely out a large portion of their expected wages.
