Considering how many episodes of One Piece there are, there is a shockingly low amount of filler mixed in. This is primarily because of the almost inhuman pace that Eiichiro Oda keeps producing the manga; despite a new episode coming out almost every week, there always seems to be plenty of manga ahead of them.
However, there are still almost 100 episodes of filler in One Piece to navigate your way through. With over 1100 episodes of the anime and counting, you’re always best off not wasting your time with something that isn’t going to contribute to the overall story.
What are filler episodes in One Piece?
When we talk about filler in anime, we typically refer to episodes that do not adapt material from the original manga. Sometimes this is simply the animation studio’s way of allowing the manga to maintain a healthy buffer over them and there are definitely some fun moments in these episodes. However, they can also directly contradict what comes later in the manga. For example, Zoro is shown cutting steel chains in an early filler episode of One Piece, but he later states that he still can’t cut steel during the Alabasta Arc.
These episodes are relatively infrequent but they can feel jarring when you come across a large number of them at a time. However, because Oda seems to be incapable of taking any time off, the filler never reaches levels seen in other anime like Naruto.
