The afterlife isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. After an embarrassing death, a boy named Kazuma Satou is given the choice between heaven, restarting his life, or being reincarnated on an RPG-like world where he must defeat a devil king. Kazuma, always up for an adventure, chooses the latter, and quickly finds himself in over his head.

When given the choice of taking anything with him, Kazuma chooses a goddess named Aqua. However, he soon realizes that Aqua isn’t as powerful as she led him to believe, and the two quickly find themselves on a series of misadventures.

Based on the best-selling light novel series, KonoSuba is a isekai with a slice-of-life feel. If you’ve ever wanted to get into KonoSuba but weren’t sure where to start, Popverse has you covered. This guide will tell you everything you need to know to watch the anime, its spinoff, the theatrical film, and the OVAs.

How to watch KonoSuba in release order

The KonoSuba franchise is made up of two television shows, a movie, and some OVAs. There’s God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!, which has released three seasons so far. The television series includes OVAs, which are released at the end of each season. In 2019 a threatrical film titled Legend of Crimson was released, and a spinoff titled An Explosion on This Wonderful World! aired in 2023. It’s not too much to keep track of, but if you need help, just refer to this release order watch list.

How to watch KonoSuba in chronological order

Watching KonoSuba in chronological order is mostly the same as watching it in release order. The only differences are that Explosion on This Wonderful World spinoff takes place at the same time as the first season of God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World, and God's Blessing on This Wonderful Choker is set in the middle of season two. If you need help keeping it straight, just refer to this watch list.

  • KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! season one/ KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! season one
  • KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! season two episodes 1-5
  • KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful Choker!
  • KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! season two episodes 6-10
  • KonoSuba: God's Blessing on These Wonderful Works of Art!
  • KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! Legend of Crimson
  • KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! season three
  • KonoSuba: Red Stream Explosion!
  • KonoSuba: Beware of Fakes!

What about Isekai Quartet?

Isekai Quartet is a crossover anime that features characters from KonoSuba, Overlord, Re: Zero, and The Saga of Tanya the Evil as chibi-style characters. The tone is tongue and cheek, and none of the events depicted in the anime are considered canon. In other words, if Kazuma does something crazy in Isekai Quartet, it has no effect on his story in KonoSuba and won’t ever be referenced.

If you’re a completist and you want to watch Isekai Quartet, here’s how to do it…

Has the KonoSuba anime ended?

No, KonoSuba has not ended. Studio Kadokawa has announced that KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! season four is in production, but there aren’t any details beyond that. As of this writing, there is no confirmed release date, and we don’t know which of the light novels the next season we’ll be adapting. Either way, we’ll be getting more KonoSuba, which is never a bad thing.

Is KonoSuba a harem?

Nobody can seem to agree on the answer to this question. If you Google it, you’ll find answers saying no and yes. We’re going with no, but with a caveat. It’s not a harem anime, but there are lots of harem elements which the show parodies. Kazuma is surrounded by beautiful women, and there is some romantic teasing, but for the most part KonoSuba is an isekai with comedic elements.

Why is KonoSuba rated R?

This question is searched a lot, but KonoSuba actually doesn’t have an R-rating. In the United States it’s been given a TV-14 rating, which isn’t as bad as an R, but it’s still something that could be inappropriate for young children. The female characters in the anime wear revealing clothing and often stand in proactive poses. At times the anime focuses on underwear, stealing it, or how some female characters don’t wear it.

Where can I watch KonoSuba?

If you’re looking to watch KonoSuba, then a Crunchyroll subscription is your best bet. The anime streaming service is currently home to KonoSuba seasons 1-3, the Explosion on This Wonderful World spinoff, the Legend of Crimson film, and the OVAs. Yes, this includes both the sub and the dub. The OVAs and the Legend of Crimson film are included with the God's Blessing on This Wonderful World episodes instead of listed individually. This makes it easier to watch them in order without switching back and forth. Please note, KonoSuba’s digital availability may change as streaming licenses expire and new deals are made.
