One of the great comeback stories of anime has been Bleach. Despite being one of the biggest manga and anime of its time, an excess of filler and several poorly executed arcs in the manga led to Bleach being canceled before it could adapt the grand finale. In 2022, a full decade after it first went off the air, Bleach came back with Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. In October 2024, the third part of this anime revival will air.
Aniplex confirmed the release window at its Anime Expo 2024 panel along with a teaser trailer to really hype the release. Say what you want about Bleach, but few words give anime fans shivers quite like hearing Ichigo shout “Bankai!” so the trailer gave us everything we needed. Part three of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, subtitled The Conflict, will air on October 5, 2024.
The Thousand-Year War anime sets out to give anime fans the closure that manga readers got when the Bleach manga ended in 2016. It finally adapts the final arc of the manga in four parts. The first aired in 2022, and the second aired in 2023. With the third part coming in just a few months, we would expect the final cour of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War to come sometime in late 2025, finally bringing Ichigo’s journey as a Soul Reaper to an end.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War is streaming on Hulu in the US and on Disney+ in most international markets, so don’t expect to find it on your Crunchyroll subscription.
