Cassian Andor & K-2S0's first meeting (and the droid's birth) gives Diego Luna & Alan Tudyk the giggles ahead of Star Wars' Andor season 2 reveal

Andor's Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk are reunited in season 2, and the two couldn't be happier

If the reception at Star Wars Celebration Japan was anything to go by, Star Wars fans around the world are very, very excited to see the new season of Andor — and, if anything, even more excited about the fact that the season will feature the return of Alan Tudyk’s K-2SO, Cassian Andor’s sidekick from the 2016 movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Tudyk was greeted by wild applause during the Saturday morning Andor panel at the event — but, it turns out, no-one was happier to see Tudyk return than Diego Luna, who plays the title character of the show.

“I missed Alan badly,” Luna told the audience. “He’s the most generous, the nicest partner you can have in a scene… There is nothing like working with someone who is always finding a way to make it more interesting, more fun, you know? And to surprise you. As an actor, that’s beautiful. I never knew it was going to be so much fun. Because when you read the pages, you are interacting with a droid, you know? And then Alan comes and it’s just a character that has soul. He brought a soul to this character and made it unforgettable and that's why he deserves the reception he got. He took the character to another level.”

“I always held out hope… I really wanted it to happen,” Tudyk said about returning as K-2SO. (Can we call it ‘returning’ in that this show takes place before Rogue One?) He continued, “We get to see our two characters meet, and the birth of K-2SO… which is exciting to see, it was very exciting to do, to be born. It was just beyond.” Tudyk said that he feels that Andor is “a very important series, and I’m glad to be a part of it.”

Yes, Tudyk has, in fact, confirmed that Andor is going to rewrite established Star Wars canon, because there's already a canonical version of the two characters meeting for the first time but, really… is anyone that upset about finding out the Andor take on how K-2SO and Cassian met, given how good the show is?

Andor season 2 starts April 22 on Disney+.
